Science education

The dissemination of scientific culture, not only in the academic environment but also in society and especially among young people, is a basic means to promote the study of scientific disciplines and produce awareness about technological progress. In the present situation of quick technological evolution, it is very important to keep a historical perspective. The Department operates at various levels:
a) Education. By means of laboratories, conferences, seminars and direct involvement of primary and secondary teachers and students in projects which include the national Project for Science Degrees, interactive exhibitions in which secondary school students contribute as guides and tutors, and initiatives in which primary school students operate combining art, science and multimedia productions.
b) Museums and exhibitions. The extraordinary legacy of history and science which the Department owns as part of the University of Pavia is valorised and made available through the historical collections and exhibitions targeting school classes and the general public. In the last few years there has been a number of exhibitions centred on Albert Einstein, Galileo Galilei, Alessandro Volta and themes related to the physics of matter and technology.
The remarkable success of the various initiatives proves that curiosity and need of scientific information comes from society and the Department works to satisfy this kind of demands. In 2010, the international year of environment, there were initiatives centred on energy, among which the exhibition "Energia, questa trasformista ".
