PhD in Physics - Year 2020
The official call for admission to the PhD 2020/2021 has been published on 19 May 2020 and is available on the University web site. The deadline for applications is 24 June 2020 at 17h CET. The following scholaraships are available:
- 6 funded by the University of Pavia;
- 1 funded by INFN;
- 1 additional scholarship that is reserved to candidates who obtained their 2nd-level (M.Sci.) degree outside of Italy, and is attributed by a separate ranking.
By decision of the University, candidates who obtained their 2nd-level degree abroad must choose whether they apply for the general ranking (with 7 scholarships, one of which is INFN, plus 2 positions without scholarship) or they apply for the separate ranking (1 reserved fellowship). Candidates with a foreign M.Sci. title may contact the coordinator for further information.
Candidates should pay careful attention to the procedures in the call for applications, in particular to the rules for presenting the documents (art.5): the CV and self-declarations must be signed and uploaded with scanned signature, or digitally signed (CAD). The selection is by qualifications assessment and oral exam (interview). Interviews are scheduled on 10 September 2020 and can be held in video-conference, provided the candidate asks for this possibility before the application deadline and by the procedures described in the call. The PhD course will start on 1 October 2020, the required academic degree (Laurea Magistrale - Master of Science or equivalent) must be obtained by 31 October 2020 (new: extended to 30 november 2020).
Indications for reference letters
The PhD in Physics is organized in three curricula:
- Physics of fundamental interactions: nuclear and subnuclear physics, theoretical and mathematical physics;
- Condensed matter physics, optics and photonics, quantum information;
- Interdisciplinary and applied physics: biomedical physics, energy, ICT.
